Absolutely 'quackers' pitch invader brings Bolton Wanderers match to a halt

Bolton Wanderers' match with Fleetwood Town was brought to a 'bizarre' halt due to an unusual pitch invader.

The game, which took place last night (Tuesday December 7) was one to forget for The Trotters as captain Ricardo Santos was given a red card, during a 3-0 drubbing in the wind and rain.

It was a defeat that left Bolton 16th in the League One table, after taking 26 points from the first 21 games of the season.

But just before half-time, there was some light relief as duck somehow found itself on the pitch.

Derek Clark, who was commentating on the game for Bolton FM and the league's iFollow service was astounded by the 'bonkers' turn of events.

As Bolton prepared to take a throw-in, he said: "There's a duck on the park.

"Now this is bizarre. It's now gone off the field and is on the touchline."

He then broke into laughter as he struggled to find the words to sum up what was happening.

"Well you think you've seen it all," he chuckled.

"Bonkers to say the least!"

Club staff eventually managed to usher the duck off the field of play.

Fans saw the funny side and @Matt_Foulkes_17 suggested that Bolton should try signing the duck.

He tweeted: "Is that duck still knocking about? #SuperSub"

@JarvisanVA wrote: "Can the duck play in midfield"

While @Mason12692848 commented: the most entertaining thing that happened tonight is a duck invading the pitch really poor."

It is not the first duck-related incident for Greater Manchester's football teams this season.

In August, Wigan Athletic paid tribute to fan Daryl Ravden's dead pet duck Keith, at half-time during their League One win over Portsmouth.

An image of the aquatic bird was shown on the big screen at the interval as 9,571 fans remembered his life.

Keith's death was reportedly posted in a club Facebook group, which caused confusion with many issuing condolences to a fan, before realising it was relating to a pet duck.
