'Absolutely not happy' - Joel Matip sends angry message to Liverpool team-mates after Brighton draw

Liverpool defender Joel Matip says they must 'step up and do better' after they drew 3-3 with Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp 's side returned after the international break and were unable to get up and running as they found themselves 2-0 down after 20 minutes. A double from Roberto Firmino put them back on level terms before an own goal gave the Reds a much-needed lead in the second-half.

However, Leandro Trossard completed his hat-trick just after the 80-minute mark and Liverpool were unable to put themselves back in front. It was their fourth draw of the campaign so far in the league, and Matip says they expect 'more of themselves' after another disappointing result.

"Absolutely not happy. Not a good performance. Brighton played really well and made our life quite hard," he told BBC Sport. "It wasn't our game and it started from the beginning. We have to improve.

"It was better but we are still not happy with our performance, especially at home. We expect more from ourselves. It's great, even in not a good game for us, he (Roberto Firmino) scores. That's brilliant. He (Alisson) was there to save our backs again and hopefully he does not have as many saves to make in the future.

"I don't care who is coming, we just have to step up and do better."

Liverpool are back in Champions League action midweek as they welcome Rangers to Anfield on Tuesday night. They currently sit second in group A, level on three points with Ajax.
