'Absolutely immoral': Nottinghamshire Live readers react with 'fury' to Tier 3 decision

The Government announcement Nottingham and Nottinghamshire going into Tier 3 in after lockdown has sparked considerable anger among readers.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock spoke in the House of Commons to confirm the new tier restrictions and where they would apply on November 26.

Tier 3 rules for the whole county will come into force on December 2 and will be reviewed in a few weeks, with alert levels set to be looked at again on December 16.

Retail stores will be able to reopen their doors, however there will be restrictions on other businesses in the hospitality sector.

Nottinghamshire Live readers reacted on Facebook to the news.

Karen Weatherall wrote: "And they kept saying end of lockdown! It's all the businesses I feel sorry for.

"This is the busiest time of year for trade so they'll be no coming back for most of them. Absolutely immoral."

Michelle Hewitt commented: "It was not surprising Nottingham is going into Tier 3 , as a lot of people haven't followed the lockdown rules.

"We have been hearing [about] parties still going on over the last couple of weeks, supermarkets and retail parks have been packed, some shops what shouldn't have been open have still kept there shops open.

"Although there has been so many following distancing and wearing face masks, there are still people thinking they can do what they want, which keeps us in a higher level for longer, which has a devastating effect on local businesses and health care."

"Resentment will now turn to anger, " wrote Julian Clayton.

"Enough of this now. Lovely restaurants and bars will sadly close down due to this rubbish.

"People have had enough now. Just open up and let’s drink in them. A health emergency is nearly over, we are causing an undue economic emergency which will take longer than Covid to cure."

Angie Ball was angry at the tier decision for other areas, writing: "London and all its 32 boroughs are doing so well they are in tier 2.

"I am furious. What has been the point of the last 3 weeks?

"No pubs allowed to open other than for take out meals. How many will be able to survive this? I know lets all go down to London for a pint."

Andrew Tomlin added: "It’s a complete farse! Our economy cannot bounce back like Manchester Birmingham or London.

"We don’t get the support like other places do. WHAT A JOKE! I truly hope places refuse to close and continue trading and people support them and go out in full force."

And for Beverley Fay, it was a realisation that not much would be changing after December 2.

"So basically with so many places being put into Tier 3 it's just a diplomatic way of saying full lockdown for another 2 weeks," she wrote.
