Absolutely huge queue at Primark in Cardiff on first Saturday after non-essential shops re-open in Wales

There is a massive queue outside Primark in Cardiff today as shoppers made their way out for the first Saturday since non-essential retail re-opened in Wales.

The queue, which winds down an alleyway next to the large retailer, was packed with shoppers by lunchtime. It is made up of four long lines, with people following social distancing rules and keeping a two metre distance from those they are not shopping with.

Non-essential retailers re-opened their doors in Wales on Monday after four long months of closure as Wales dealt with a second peak of coronavirus infections.

Earlier this week, when shops re-opened for the first time on Monday, the queue was made up of just three lines.

Despite the long queue, shoppers were moving fast into the store, with one visitor claiming they waited for just 10 minutes.

She said: "We have come from Merthyr today, we have been queuing for about 10 minutes that's all. We have just come down for bits and bobs as we haven't been able to get out for the past year. And we are all happy, all happy in the sunshine ready to go to Primark."

Earlier this week, we asked shoppers out on Monday what they wanted to buy so desperately to visit Primark.

People said they were there for kids' clothes, new pants, socks and bras, complaining that shopping online just wasn't the same.

There are more major rule changes on the way on April 26. You can read about them here.
