'Absolutely gutted for him'- Tottenham fans frustrated to see defender Eric Dier limp off

By Danyal Khan

Tottenham fans were absolutely gutted to see the in form Eric Dier being assisted off early on in the London derby against Crystal Palace in the Premier League with a suspected ankle injury.

Dier, 27, started in a depleted back four with youngster Japhet Tanganga as his centre-half partner but his afternoon was swiftly drawn to an end in the 12th minute due to a clash with Eagles forward Jordan Ayew.

Wales international Joe Rodon came on in his place, as the midfielder turned defender had to be assisted off the pitch and down the tunnel to the Selhurst Park dressing rooms.

Our Tottenham correspondent for football.london, Alasdair Gold, gave his verdict on what he saw with his tweet: 'Eric Dier being helped down the tunnel in a lot of pain here at Selhurst Park.'

Updates in due course will obviously be on their way when the game comes to a conclusion but it the early signs indicate that it's not good news for the north Londoners, who are already missing defenders Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez, who were two of the three players involved in issues over South American players over the first international break of the 2021/22 season.

@Lukeathon1 has pointed out: 'We've got like 15 first team players for the rennes game.'

@Lanigara wrote: 'Éric is a warrior and looking him like that is not good at all …'

@DanielFurmage like many other supporters feel: 'Absolutely gutted for him tbh.'

@Manu23588 is seriously worried for the rest of the season now: 'He was playing so so well. I'm done with this season already.'

Finally, @BenHotspur is looking on the situation in a positive way at this current moment: 'But he’s walking, no stretcher so that’s good sign.'

The game ended in a shock 3-0 defeat for the north Londoners as Dier's injury rounded off what turned out to be a terrible day in the capital for Espirito Santo, who tasted Premier League defeat for the first time as Spurs manager.
