'Absolutely excellent' - Sky Sports pundit makes big Nottingham Forest promotion claim

Sky Sports pundit Scott Minto believes Nottingham Forest did brilliantly to get a point vs West Brom – but will miss out on automatic promotion.

Minto, who fronts Sky’s coverage of the EFL was speaking after Forest picked up a dramatic draw with league leaders West Brom on Saturday.

The result leaves the Reds in fifth in the table, four points behind Leeds United, who occupy the final automatic promotion spot.

Leeds were the only side in the top six to win at the weekend, but Minto believes the Baggies are still the best side in the division.

“If West Brom had a great midweek then Leeds certainly had a great weekend, with them winning and others dropping points around them,” Minto said.

“I have to say though, the game I did on Saturday, West Brom v Nottingham Forest - first of all West Brom to me, right now are the best team in the Championship.

“We can’t say it’s them plus one, just yet, we’ve seen what’s happened in the last few months. But, I think they’ve been absolutely excellent, the additions they’ve made in January, they look very, very strong.”

On Forest, Minto feels that they will fall short of the top-two, but their brilliant record against their promotion rivals could give them the edge in the end of season play-offs.

He added: “Forest did well to keep up with them, I understand what Sabri Lamouchi was saying about certain decisions that went against him, but you have to say Albion were superb, Forest did well to get that point.

“I don’t see them finishing top two, I do see them finishing top six now and with their head-to-head record being very good against the top six, who knows what could happen in the play-offs?

“In terms of Leeds, it’s amazing the difference a week makes in the SkyBet Championship.”
