'Absolutely disgusting' Fury as Lockerbie air disaster images made into sick online jigsaws

Furious Lockerbie residents have been left “shocked and disgusted” after it emerged that images of the air disaster have been turned into online jigsaws.

Puzzle fans can complete stills of the grisly scenes which unfolded after Pan Am flight 103 exploded in the skies above Dumfriesshire, on December 21, 1988.

The images – contained on the Jigsaw Planet site – include the nose cone of the Maid of the Seas and the damage inflicted on the town.

Jan Andrews, chairwoman of Lockerbie Community Council, said: “It’s absolutely shocking and despicable that somebody would even want to sit and do a jigsaw of something like that.”

“It’s absolutely disgusting. Absolutely shocking and disgusting, especially at this time of year.”

The festive period always evokes memories of the terror attack which the town’s residents have tried hard to put behind them.

Jan added: “I can’t speak for everybody but we have tried to move away from this.

“We marked the 30th anniversary, which was really good because the young people of the town were fully represented and they are the future of Lockerbie.

“Things like this bring it all back up for us and we are trying to move forward but it’s particularly bad coming at this time when Syracuse have just had their remembrance ceremony in America.

“At this time it’s already at the forefront of people’s minds.”

Some 35 of the New York university’s students were aboard the doomed flight, which exploded 31,000 feet above Lockerbie, raining flaming wreckage on the town.

A total of 270 people died – 259 aboard and 11 of the town’s residents.

Images contained on the Czech-based internet site are uploaded by users.

Jigsaw Planet was approached for comment.
