'Absolutely disgusting' - Anger as Wallsend park is targeted by vandals

A popular park in North Tyneside has been targeted by vandals.

Over the past few weeks, damage has been caused at Wallsend Parks, with flower beds being ripped out and windows in the pavilion being smashed.

Now people are being urged to stay vigilant and report any vandalism to the police.

Wallsend Parks made this statement on Facebook: "Over the last few weeks there’s been an increase in anti-social behaviour in the park resulting in damage to the flower beds and broken windows in the pavilion.

"Our teams work very hard to keep our award-winning parks looking great for you, and it makes us sad to see a few people spoil it for the rest.

"So, if you are out and about enjoying Wallsend Parks and see anyone damaging the flower beds or any other equipment please contact the police on 101."

And North Tynedside Council added: "There's no need for this kind of destruction.

"Keep your eyes open and help us keep North Tyneside a great place to live, work and visit."

The news caused anger among many residents, with one calling the vandals "mindless morons".

A message on Facebook said: " Absolutely disgusting. No respect for where they live."

Another added: "Some pure scum about."

And one woman wrote: "That's awful. Why can't people be proud of our wonderful gardens."

This post summed it up for many: "Such a shame. The park looks lovely and a few unruly kids are spoiling it for everyone."
