Who could possibly have predicted that the nation’s health services would utterly collapse under the command of necrotic real-life Sith Lord/current US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr? Oh wait, literally everyone.
Under RFK Jr’s terrifyingly uneducated and delusional leadership, his whackadoo beliefs are being forced onto the critical institutions devoted to keeping you alive. As it turns out, scientists, doctors, and experts who’ve devoted their lives to healthcare have ethical issues with policies they know will kill people. Something about a Hippocratic Oath?
Now it’s all falling apart. Yesterday, Susan Monarez, a Trump appointee who was sworn in as the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (the CDC) just months ago, was unceremoniously removed from the role for unknown reasons, with a statement from the Department of Health and Human Services offering no explanation:
“Susan Monarez is no longer director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We thank her for her dedicated service to the American people,”
Monarez sounds furious and is adamant she’s staying put, with her lawyers releasing a statement saying she’s “neither resigned nor received notification”. The root of this appears to be Monarez refusing to sign up to RFK Jr’s vaccine skepticism, and this insubordination cannot be tolerated.
Was a real nice CDC we had here once…
Now the CDC is falling apart, with other leaders saying they can no longer in good conscience work there. Dr Demetre Daskalakis, who was director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases until this week, said:
“I am not able to serve in this role any longer because of the ongoing weaponizing of public health. You are the best team I have ever worked with, and you continue to shine despite this dark cloud over the agency and our profession. Please take care of yourself and your teams and make the right decisions for yourselves.”
Another outgoing CDC head, Dr Deb Houry, echoed that, saying:
“For the good of the nation and the world, the science at CDC should never be censored or subject to political pauses or interpretations.”
Medical observers are horrified, as at this point the United States will either have no CDC going forward, or one staffed with brainworm-infested conspiracy lunatics with tinfoil wrapped around their skulls to protect them from 5G. I’m not sure which is worse.
Dr Craig Spencer, an emergency medicine doctor and professor at Brown University School of Public Health, didn’t mince his words:

None of this is good! MAGA, Kennedy, and Trump might warble and gnash their teeth about science they don’t agree with, but that doesn’t make it any less true.
