Chelsea wonderkid Billy Gilmour's return to action after four months out didn't last long.
The midfielder is yet to make an appearance for the Blues this season after being sidelined since July with a serious knee injury that ended his breakthrough 2019/20 campaign earlier than expected.
With that said, Gilmour has been heading in the right direction over the past month having taken part in several first-team training sessions alongside the likes of N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, Kai Havertz, and Timo Werner.
And after being named in the Scotland Under-21 squad for the November international break, the 19-year-old was poised to take another giant step to being involved with Chelsea in the weeks to come.
Croatia were the visitors to Tynecastle Park on Thursday evening for a crucial UEFA U21 European Championships clash.
Gilmour was included among the substitutes as watched on as the away side raced into a 2-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Nikolo Moro and Kristijan Bistrovic.
Glenn Middleton reduced the deficit nine minutes into the second half and just after the hour mark Gilmour was introduced to proceedings in an attempt to get the young Scots back on level terms.
Whilst, that did happen with Connor McLennan grabbing the equaliser in the 70th minute to earn a 2-2 draw for the hosts, Gilmour's night would end seconds later.
On his first appearance of the season, the teenager was shown a red card following a tackle and presumably talking back to the referee.
As expected, Gilmour's sending off has sparked a massive reaction from Chelsea fans on social media.
