'Absolute scenes' as Bristol celebrates England's victory against Germany at Euro 2020

Bristol has erupted this evening as football fans celebrate the immense win of the England football squad in their face-off with Germany.

After a tense first half, which saw no goals from either team, the city went wild as Raheem Sterling tapped the ball over the line into the German goal.

Our fate was then secured as captain Harry Kane went on to score a second goal. Not long after full time, photos of Bristolians celebrating in the city came flooding in.

One person wrote on Twitter: "All I can hear in Bristol city centre is men chanting football songs and multiple car alarms going off . Absolute scenes."

Another fan said that "Bristol was absolute chaos".

Earlier Avon and Somerset Police Horses even got involved in the excitement, sharing a picture of the horses they said: "Somerset & Wellington look slightly less enthusiastic about the football than Larry & Trinity Rolling on the floor laughing.

"They are in Bristol ensuring everyone stays safe this evening. #enjoyingthegamesafely."

Joey Barton, the manager of League One side Bristol Rovers tweeted: "Can’t help but like Gareth Southgate. Nice but if redemption for him today."

And again saying: "Passionate fans in stadiums…

"They make special occasions, extra special. Great to have them back."

England and Germany met for the first time in November 1899, when England beat Germany in four straight matches.

However, their last face-off was a friendly in 2017, which saw both teams draw at 0 - 0.

Last night saw dramatic scenes as France was eliminated by Switzerland on penalties in the last 16.
