"Absolute joke" - Jadon Sancho posts angry tweet over German FA punishment

Jadon Sancho has called the DFL an "absolute joke" after the Borussia Dortmund and England star was fined €10,000 for a breach of coronavirus lockdown rules.

The 20-year-old and several of his team-mates were pictured getting haircuts from celebrity stylist Winnie Nana Karkari without wearing a mask earlier this week.

Thorgan Hazard, Axel Witsel, Raphael Guerreiro, Manuel Akanji and Dan-Axel Zagadou were also seen with the hairdresser but only Sancho and Akanji have been fined after violating hygiene standards.

A DFL statement read: "The players from Borussia Dortmund had obviously violated general hygiene and infection protection standards at home hairdressing appointments and in particular the medical-organisational concept of the DFL task force.

"There is no question that professional footballers also have to have their hair cut. However, this currently has to be done in accordance with the medical-organisational concept."

Michael Zorc, the Dortmund sporting director, yesterday said that the club would not reprimand the players but they were disappointed in their decision and social media posting.

"We talked to the hairdresser, to our players and they all assured us that, while cutting their hair the hygiene rules were followed and the hairdresser did not only wear a mask but also a protection shield and they took it off for the pictures,” Zorc said.

"That's not right and we addressed this with the players. We are not defending the hairdresser visit. But I believe that in the DFL instructions, important things are not forbidden. "

While Chelsea carried a long-held interest in signing the former Manchester City player, his £120million asking price is being judged too high and the imminent arrival of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig is likely to end their interest for now.

Manchester United remain the frontrunners to land his signature in the next transfer window.
