'Absolute JOKE' - chaos at Asda as chicken shortage leaves shelves empty

Asda has apologised to customers after a supply issue has led to a chicken shortage in some stores.

The issue has been caused by a problem with supplies, which Asda is looking to resolve quickly.

Shoppers are reporting finding empty shelves at their local stores and a lack of chicken available, reports the  Liverpool ECHO.

Disappointed shoppers have taken to social media to express their frustration with the chicken crisis.

"@Asda So it's 17:23 and there's no chicken?" one wrote.

User @elliemoyses said: "Asda had barely anything! Absolute JOKE where's all the chicken gone??"

@dandiack said: "Still no chicken in @asda @AsdaServiceTeam Bridge of Dee. Guess it'll have to be @sainsburys or @tesco."

And, @LouisaL23x said: "There's actual NAE chicken left in Asda! What happened to veganuary?"

The ECHO contacted Asda to find out what the issue was, and were told it was caused by a "temporary supply issue" and some of its stores were "currently low" on chicken.

An Asda spokesperson said: "We are sorry we fell fowl of our customers’ expectations for a couple of days, however we would like to reassure them that our shelves are now fully stocked up again."
