'Absolute disgrace!' - Arsenal fans can't believe what has happened on transfer deadline day

Arsenal fans have taken to social media and are reacting to a rather surprise decision that has been made on transfer deadline day.

With just hours left of the summer transfer window, the Gunners are still being tipped to do some late business amid links to Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey who has an £45m release clause in his contract.

Although a move for Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar looks unlikely following developments over the weekend.

But while fans wait for news of a potential signing, there has reportedly been a confirmed exit.

However, it's not one of Lucas Torreira, Sokratis, Matteo Guendouzi, Shkodran Mustafi or Mesut Ozil - all of whom have been tipped to leave the club before the 11pm deadline.

Rather it's the club's mascot 'Gunnersaurus'.

As reported by The Athletic, Arsenal’s COVID-19 cuts have claimed another victim in the shape of Jerry Quy who has dressed up as the dinosaur mascot since its inception in 1993.

In August, Arsenal announced the decision to make 55 redundancies due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the club’s finances and Quy’s Gunnersaurus role - for the time being - has been deemed no longer necessary.

As expected, this decision has prompted a massive response from fans on social media as many can't believe this has happened on transfer deadline day.

However, it should be noted that this is only a temporary measure as Arsenal have insisted the beloved mascot will return.

That could happen if and when supporters are allowed back into stadiums.
