Absolute cringe, patronising, and like a Peter Kay mockumentary: Viewers react to first episode of Yorkshire Airport on ITV

A new series about Leeds Bradford Airport has been slammed as being like a Peter Kay-style spoof by unimpressed viewers.

The first episode of Yorkshire Airport aired on ITV last night, pledging to showcase the amazing stories and characters at the heart of LBIA and give people the chance to see how things are kept running smoothly day-to-day.

But Twitter reaction has seen the show branded 'absolute cringe', patronising and accused of 'making a mockery of Yorkshire'.

Questions were also raised about Jet2.com's absence from the show, despite Leeds Bradford being its main hub.

Jaime Watson tweeted: "Just watched #yorkshireairport and I can honestly say I’m mortified. The vast majority of the people who work there take the job seriously and don’t dick about all day. It’s making a mockery of God’s Own County."

Kirsty Halton said: "I grew up half a mile from this airport’s runway. And there’s a really nasty patronising tone to this programme."

User @apuforu said: "Its already turning into a Peter Kay Mockumentary."

And @skellibobs said: "Hard to believe #YorkshireAirport is real and not a new series of Come Fly With Me."

Not everyone was disappointed, however - some viewers praised the show.

Ahead of its airing, Hywel Rees, chief executive of Leeds Bradford Airport said: "A year ago, Leeds Bradford Airport took part in the ITV documentary to highlight its great ambitions, warm characters and big personalities.

"The documentary demonstrates the day to day operation of the airport as well as our our staff’s problem solving skills, professionalism under pressure as well as the good humour of passengers and staff.

"We value our role as a crucial gateway to and from the North and the programme showcases the breadth of international destinations accessible from the airport. We hope everyone enjoys seeing Yorkshire’s airport on the small screen.”
