'Absolute banger' written by Nicky Byrne might be Ireland's Eurovision entry this year

This "absolute banger" written by Nicky Byrne might be Ireland's Eurovison entry this year.

Patrick O'Sullivan, the Cork winner of the RTE talent Show Last Singer Standing, is one of the six performers in with a chance to represent Ireland at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Turin.

Ryan Tubridy confirmed that the Late Late Show will host the final selection for this year's Irish entry on Friday, February 4.

Six performers will compete live on the show and the final decision will be made through a combination of a panel of judges and a phone-in vote.

Two contending original songs have already been revealed by Ryan.

A song from Rachel Goode and Brendan Murray, of the former boyband Hometown who competed on the X Factor in the UK in 2017, was showcased on Ryan's RTE Radio 1 show.

Patrick is throwing his hat in the ring to represent Ireland.

Ad he said that his song One Night, One Kiss, One Promise, written by Nicky Byrne, Lar Kaye and Danny O'Reilly, is an "absolute banger".

He told Dublin Live: "It’s such an honour to be considered as Ireland's entry this year.

"Eurovision holds a very special place in my heart. I have very found memories of the whole family sitting down to watch it together, an occurrence typically reserved for Glenroe.

"As far as I'm concerned it’s the highest honour you can have, being asked to represent your country. Since I haven’t a sporting bone in my body this is probably the best opportunity I’ll get."

He added: "Nicky Byrne, Lar Kaye and Danny O’Reilly are some of Ireland's most talented musicians.

"It’s a song about a modern romance, it’s a love story set to a fantastic, up beat melody with a killer hook and really, what more could you ask for of a Eurovision entry?

"it ticks all the boxes and gives Ireland a fantastic opportunity to blow Europe away."
