Abroath boss Dick Campbell explains Hamilton touchline bust-up

Arbroath boss Dick Campbell has revealed his touchline bust-up with Hamilton boss Stuart Taylor was down to what he claims was his dugout rival trying to get a player booked.

The managers had an angry exchange midway through the first half after Anton Dowds was judged to have gone in late on Accies' Reegan Mimnaugh in the middle of the park, although referee Scott Lambie didn't produce a card.

Taylor didn't take kindly to the challenge and let Campbell know about it, which ended in the officials having to separate them in the technical area.

But Campbell accused Taylor of trying to get his player booked for a challenge he believed wasn't even a foul.

The Lichties boss, whose side grabbed a 91st minute equaliser in the 1-1 draw, explained: "I was watching from the directors box and he [Taylor] is talking to the linesman the whole game.

"I said to him when I came down: Do you want to referee the f****** game Stuart or do you want to let them get on with it?

"He said, how do you mean?

"I said see the tackle [on Mimnaugh] - which wasn't even a foul - they were wanting my player booked. I hate that - trying to get players booked.

"I said that to him at half-time and he said he wasn't trying to get my player booked, he was just trying to tell me it was a bad foul.

"Sometimes referees get influenced by that.

"He's a good manager, I've known him for years and I think he's got a chance in the game.

"But he needs to learn that you need two games to win a game of football and the manager in the opposite dugout has got the same desire."

Campbell also complained about Hamilton players going down late on in the game as the side tried to see the game out, although he revealed he apologised to Accies defender Jamie Hamilton after he came off in the 85th minute suffering from chest pains.

Campbell added: "You could see Hamilton desperately hanging on for the three points with the amount of players going down in the second half.

"I didn't know about the boy with chest pains, and I apologised to him and shook his hand at the end of the game.

"It's called managing the game [players going down], but it doesn't do anything for the supporters.

"I still think it's a good result for Hamilton. They played a lot of good stuff at times.

"But for us, if you score in 91 minutes, I'll take that and head up the road."
