Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea football club, is reported to be on the verge of buying a daily newspaper in Moscow, Kommersant, for $120m. Its commercial director admitted to "probably" having been in negotiations with Abramovich's newly-created investmment company, Millhouse. Such a deal would be controversial because Kommersant is regarded as one of the last strongholds of independent media in Russia, and Abramovich is a perceived Kremlin loyalist. (Via The Moscow Times)
