TEHRAN -- About 100 people attended a memorial rally in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, on Friday for Japanese doctor Tetsu Nakamura and the five others killed in an attack by members of an armed group, urging an early resolution to the killing.
Those gathered were local farmers who had benefited from irrigation and other projects led by Nakamura, the local representative of the nongovernmental organization Peshawar-kai.
At the rally, one of the posters read, "Mr. Nakamura is a victim."
"Mr. Nakamura gave poor people like us a new life. The authorities must find the people responsible," a 35-year-old farmer told The Yomiuri Shimbun.
Local police on Wednesday detained an Afghan man who is suspected of masterminding the killings, and are investigating any possible motives behind Nakamura's murder.
The police are currently holding five people in connection to the killing. Some observers, however, said the investigation might be lengthy.
