Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit has called for formulating a strategy that guarantees a fair distribution of covid-19 vaccines in the Arab world.
Speaking during the 54th Ordinary Session of the Arab Health Ministers Council, held at the headquarters of the Arab League via videoconference, Aboul Gheit revealed that a number of ministers were planning to outline an Arab strategy to receive the vaccines.
He further said that despite the challenge posed by the pandemic, communities and governments could take advantage from this chance to learn and take necessary procedures to adapt to the new reality after the pandemic.
Defeating the virus will not be possible in the short run, he continued, adding that it was necessary to cope with the changes taking place on both the health and social aspects of life.
Aboul Gheit further welcomed the UN Security Council's resolution that emphasized the importance of distributing the vaccine in conflict zones.
Combatting the pandemic calls for uniting international and regional efforts, in addition to the fair distribution of vaccines around the world, according to Aboul Gheit.
The pandemic can’t be defeated anywhere, if not defeated everywhere, he affirmed.
