Malta is the only country in the European Union with a total ban on abortion, after Ireland changed its law earlier this year.
Despite being liberal in many ways, the predominantly Catholic island in the Mediterranean maintains a hard line on the issue.
But a Maltese playwright is challenging the law in his first play to discuss the subject openly.
