Abigail Breslin has urged people to wear masks against the spread of Covid-19 after her father was placed on a ventilator due to the illness.

The actor announced last week that her father has been diagnosed with the coronavirus and has provided updates since.

In a recent message, she wrote: “This is me saying that if you asked my dad: a mask is FAR LESS uncomfortable than a ventilator.

“So stfu. And wear your damn mask. Please. No one should go thru this.”

In her original post announcing her father’s diagnosis on 10 February, the Zombieland and Little Miss Sunshine actor asked for “prayers and positivity sent this way for my daddy, Michael, who tested positive for Covid-19 and this morning had to be placed on a ventilator”.

“We are continuing to stay positive and know he’s under great care,” she added at the time.

“I’m extremely thankful for the nurses and doctors who are working hard to make sure he fights this virus.”

Breslin recently answered a question from a Twitter user enquiring about her father’s health status, writing he is doing “better each day”.

“Plz keep praying!” she added. “We see the small progress as a huge win each and every day.”
