Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has called on party members to be extra careful when socialising with members of other political parties lest they risk violating party rules and the law.
His remarks on Monday were seen both as an attempt to ease pressure within the party and a warning after Songkhla politician Thaworn Senneam made his Songkhla home available to Suthep Thaugsuban, a co-founder of the Action Coalition for Thailand Party (ACT), who was on a campaign walk to recruit members in the South.
Mr Thaworn reportedly allowed Mr Suthep to use his house as "an office" for the ACT to accept applications to join the party -- a practice that upset several Democrat members.
Mr Abhisit insisted there was nothing wrong with being a good host but warned that getting involved in other parties' activities could lead to complications.
He said party members should take into consideration party regulations and the possible legal fallout, noting that the issue was sensitive with suspicions being cast over political parties colluding with each other for the election.
