Aberdeen vs Rangers referee revealed as Bobby Madden handed powder keg fixture

Bobby Madden has been handed the whistle for the game between Aberdeen vs Rangers at Pittodrie on Saturday afternoon.

The game will be the first Premiership match of the season with a 12.30pm kick-off and will be behind closed-doors in the Granite City.

And Madden will be the man in the middle for the big game, which is still set to be a powder keg fixture despite being held with no fans in the stadium.

Madden last took charge of Rangers’ 5-0 victory over Aberdeen in September last year.

He also presided over the controversial clash back in February 2019 when the Ibrox side ran out 4-2 winners.

Madden showed red cards to both Alfredo Morelos and Scott McKenna in the game at Pittodrie. The whistler's last game involving Aberdeen was a 2-1 victory against Livingston while he last took charge of Rangers in a 2-1 win over Hibs.

Elsewhere, Willie Collum will take charge of Celtic's opening game against Hamilton on Sunday.

The game takes place at Celtic Park and will see Celtic raise the league flag prior to kick-off.

Kevin Clancy will be in charge of Dundee United’s return to the Premiership in their game against St Johnstone at Tannadice.

John Beaton has been handed the whistle for Hibs vs Kilmarnock, while Don Robertson takes charge of St Mirren vs Livingston.

Monday night’s game between Ross County and Motherwell will see Nick Walsh in control.
