Aberdeen v Hibs team news as Easter Road legend out and Dons missing five players

Aberdeen could be without five players for Friday's visit of Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership with winger Jonny Hayes and striker Marley Watkins likely to miss out.

Lewis Stevenson is Jack Ross's only major injury concern as the Leith side go in search of their first win at Pittodrie since 2012.

The sides are separated by a single point in the league standings as both chase a place in Europe next season, with the Dons winning the reverse fixture 1-0 at Easter Road in September.

But Derek McInnes has a selection headache after it was confirmed Watkins - who joined on loan from Bristol City in the summer - tore his hamstring in last weekend's Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic at Hampden.

Hayes is a shorter term injury concern but the Dons will also be without former Hibs midfielder Dylan McGeouch, Dean Campbell and back up keeper Tomas Cerny.

Watkins, who has scored twice in nine games for Aberdeen this season, could return to Bristol while the possibility of surgery on the injury is explored, but McInnes told his pre-match press conference he was hopeful of avoiding such a scenario.

He could be out for ten weeks with the injury, but the Dons may look to extend his loan spell in anticipation of his return to full fitness.

McInnes said: "He has been really enjoying it, he has been a key player, everyone can see the value Marley has brought to the team.

"If there was anything that could be done going forward then that is something I would be looking to try and do.

"But he is Bristol City's player and just has to make sure he gets himself sorted and then we can look at anything beyond that."

McInnes added: "Jonny's injury could have been a lot worse, he will probably be out for the next two to three weeks."

Stevenson tweaked an ankle injury in Hibs' last league outing - a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

The 32-year-old was replaced at half-time by teenager Josh Doig, who started the defeat to Hearts in the Easter Road side's Scottish Cup semi-final reverse at the national stadium.

But Ross faces a toss up over whether to field the 18-year-old or the returning Sean Mackie, who replaced Doig in the closing stages at Hampden.

The initial prognosis on Stevenson's injury suggests he could be out for six weeks.
