Aberdeen v Hamilton Scottish Government document U-turn amid bizarre game call-off claim

Hamilton Accies' trip looks set to go ahead despite a strange mix-up in a Scottish Government publication sparking concerns yesterday.

The SPFL were forced to reiterate their statement last night that the Scottish Premiership fixture will go ahead go ahead after an update to the measures for the local lockdown in the city claimed the game was off.

The 'Sport' section claimed that the top flight fixture would not be played next Wednesday night.

The government website stated: "The Scottish Premier League (SPL) home fixture on Wednesday 12 August will not go ahead.

"This match has been cancelled due to Aberdeen FC players contracting Covid-19 and the need to minimise the risk of transmissions to other regions."

The post came after the SPFL confirmed in a brief statement that both the  Hamilton and Celtic visit next weekend would go ahead.

A source within the league chiefs confirmed to Lanarkshire Live Sport  that the fixtures still has been green lit at this stage and no further update had been provided by Holyrood.

Accies joined the calls last night issuing a statement that the game had not been postponed.

However, in the document has now been updated to note that the game against St Johnstone today will not go ahead, and no longer mentions upcoming matches.

The Dons' visit to Perth has been called off after two positive Covid-19 tests among Derek McInnes' squad forced a further six players into a fortnight's self-isolation.

Given the timescale of isolation and health advice, concerns have been raised about the impact the outbreak   will have on Accies visit to Pittodrie on Wednesday, and their trip to Glasgow to face Celtic next Saturday.

This included today at Nicola Strugeon's daily briefing, where   the First Minister said she would not "speculate" on the upcoming games.
