Aberdeen transfer blow as Derek McInnes gives update on January plans

Aberdeen's injury crisis won't be relieved by January signings, according to manager Derek McInnes .

The Dons are down to the bare bones, with Lewis Ferguson's suspension meaning Dean Campbell could be the only fit midfielder for Saturday's trip to Motherwell .

Ferguson was sent off against Hibs last time out, while Craig Bryson, Funso Ojo and Stephen Gleeson are sidelined with injury.

Despite that the Aberdeen boss doesn't envision turning to the transfer market in January.

When asked about adding to the squad, McInnes told the Aberdeen Evening Express : "I wouldn’t have thought so.

“However, January is a long way off.

“We will see where we are and things can change.

“Certainly it has been very unusual recently with injuries.

“I don’t think I have ever as a manager had eight players unavailable for selection as I did for the game against Rangers .

“The injury situation needs to improve.

“If we improve that side of it then hopefully there will not be a huge amount of work to be done in January because that is never a good thing.”

McInnes is hoping to have Bryson back for tomorrow's game, as the former Kilmarnock midfielder continues his rehabilitation from an ankle injury.
