Aberdeen Standard Investments hires emerging market economist

Aberdeen Standard Investments (ASI) has appointed Edward Glossop as its new emerging market economist, helping to inform its investment teams' portfolio decisions.

He will be responsible for monitoring short-run economic and policy moves, as well as supporting thematic projects - such as analysing demographic trends - to establish how these affect economies and assets over the long-term.

Glossop joins ASI from Capital Economics, where he specialised in emerging markets.

He will report to senior emerging markets research economist Robert Gilhooly, who joined the firm last January from the Bank of England where he was a senior economist covering Asia.

Gilhooly said: “Emerging markets as an asset class remains attractive due to its structural growth drivers, including healthy demographics and a growing middle class.

"Edward will be a great asset to the team, providing crucial insights on these structural drivers to inform investment decisions.”

Glossop commented: “I’m delighted to join ASI and add to the Research Institute's expertise in emerging markets.

"I’m particularly looking forward to working with the company’s highly regarded investment professionals and researching structural macroeconomic trends that shape long-term asset allocation decisions.”

The company launched a new emerging markets sustainable development equity fund late last year, investing in economies that have strong growth potential and where capital will have the greatest sustainable impact.
