Aberdeen 'set to land' Motherwell captain

Aberdeen are reportedly on the verge of signing Motherwell captain Declan Gallagher for next season.

Gallagher is out of contract at Fir Park this summer and boss Graham Alexander has hinted that they would have been priced out of keeping the defender on past this season.

Aberdeen boss Stephen Glass is reportedly keen to make Gallagher his second signing, after prising Scott Brown away from Celtic in a player/coach role, and the Daily Record report that he's close to landing the Scotland internationalist.

Gallagher has done well since arriving at Motherwell in 2019, quickly becoming a fans' favourite and taking on the role of captain, and it has also helped integrate him into the Scotland set-up as well.

Cardiff City were amongst other suitors for the 30-year-old, but it looks like Gallagher will be staying in the Scottish Premiership.

Gallagher has helped Motherwell secure their top-flight status and will look for good performances in their last two games against Dundee United and Ross County, as he bids to secure a place in Steve Clarke's Scotland squad for the Euros this summer.
