Aberdeen set to discover Pittodrie vaccine hub fate as club make good on 'no strings' promise

Aberdeen hope to discover this week if they have been chosen to help Scottish football lead the fight against coronavirus by rolling out the vaccine from Pittodrie.

Record Sport understands a delegation from NHS Grampian has visited the stadium to assess its suitably as a makeshift hub to help get the jab into the arms of thousands of people across the north east.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon revealed yesterday that Scotland is to receive 900,000 doses over the coming weeks. And the Dons are hopeful that they will be given the go-ahead to help with the mass vaccination programme.

Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack publicly made a ‘no strings attached’ offer to hand over his ground last month and it’s understood the 22,000-capacity stadium is one of several local sites to have been placed on standby.

A club source told us last night: “We’re absolutely thrilled that our stadium is part of the mix because we want to play our part in getting these vaccines into the community.

“The protocols which are already in place make Pittodrie a safe and sensible location to be used for rolling out these jabs.”

A number of other clubs are also in talks with their NHS authorities.
