Aberdeen’s new £333 million event complex on track to open in summer, says contractor Henry Boot

Construction group Henry Boot today said work on Aberdeen’s new £333 million event complex remains on time and within budget as it prepares for completion by the middle of this year.

The Event Complex Aberdeen, the replacement for the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC), is being delivered by the group in partnership with Aberdeen City Council.

Progress on the project, which includes a 12,500-seat arena and 350 hotel beds is the largest being undertaken by Henry Boot’s development arm, was highlighted by the group today in its full year results.

Although revenue dipped to £397.1 million from £408.5 million, with profit before tax of £48.6 million down from £55.4 million, the company said it had been a strong performance, in a year that was “typified by higher levels of economic uncertainty and global political tension”.  Net debt reduced to £18.4 million from £29 million.

Nick Harris, director and head of Henry Boot Developments ’ (HBD) Glasgow office, said the division had delivered a “robust performance is underpinned by our long-term, strategic approach to development, and the talent and ambition within our team”.

“2018 was another great year for the Glasgow office, with TECA - our joint venture with Aberdeen City Council - progressing apace, due to complete this summer.

“We look forward to further building our diverse development pipeline, which includes both residential and commercial projects, drawing on our strong financial backing and reputation for delivery.”
