Aberdeen's magical Real Madrid Cup Winners' Cup triumph makes major splash in Germany 37 years on

The 37th anniversary of Aberdeen's famous win over Real Madrid in the 1983 Cup Winners' Cup Final is being recognised by German football's biggest publication.

Kicker are pulling out all the stops to salute that famous night in Gothenburg when Sir Alex Ferguson's side defeated the most famous club in world football.

The 2-1 triumph is the stuff of legend and German football expert and huge Aberdeen fan Derek Rae has shared the article among his Twitter followers.

Alex Ferguson was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award (SNS)

And the highly-regarded Scottish broadcaster praised the publication for the write-up and the double-meaning included in the headline.

Rae said: "Nice to see the Kicker Monday edition 37 years on, commemorate Aberdeen's 1983 win v Real Madrid in the CWC final.

"The headline 'Schotten-Rock' is a pun as a 'Schottenrock' is the German word for ' kilt' but with the hyphen can also be used in sense of 'Scots-Rock'."

Aberdeen supporters still savour that famous victory all these years later as Eric Black and a John Hewitt strike in extra time secured the club their greatest ever result against the La Liga heavyweights.
