Aberdeen reveal test event KO as SPFL clubs told further trials on hold despite 'resoundingly positive' first step

SPFL clubs have been told there will be no further fan test events this weekend.

Two Premiership clashes - Aberdeen vs Kilmarnock and Ross County vs Celtic - trialled a return of 300 supporters on Saturday following the international break..

The Dons have declared the pilot fixture a success but revealed further tests are on hold for at least another week.

Club bosses had planned to increase the number of punters allowed through the gates for Sunday's visit of Motherwell.

A club statement said: "Despite Saturday’s successful trial event at Pittodrie, SPFL clubs have been informed that there will not be any trial events at Scottish Premiership matches this weekend.

"This means that our plans to welcome an increased number of supporters to Pittodrie for the visit of Motherwell on Sunday will now not go ahead.

"We continue to adhere to and comply with Scottish Government guidance and will work with football authorities to be involved in any future test events which may take place in the coming weeks."

Aberdeen insist feedback to the weekend's test run was "resoundingly positive" - both from fans and authorities.

The club expressed their gratitude to the spectators who helped the process to run smoothly and vowed to build on a promising start.

The statement continued: "We have received resoundingly positive feedback from both the supporters in attendance and the authorities following the test match at Pittodrie on Saturday and we will continue to work tirelessly behind the scenes to build upon this experience and to help shape any future events.

"As a club we’d like to take this opportunity to thank the supporters who were with us at Pittodrie last weekend and extend our gratitude for their co-operation and willingness to ensure the matchday was a safe environment for all."
