Aberdeen reveal stunning NHS tribute as Scottish football unites to applaud key workers

Amid all the furore of the last few weeks regarding U-turns, legal threats, unjust relegations and all the rest, there's nothing like Scottish football coming together.

As we now do every Thursday at 8pm, the nation came together to clap for the heroes keeping the country going during the coronavirus pandemic.

And the clubs that have been at loggerheads all week united this evening to pay their respects to staff at the NHS braving the virus day in, day out.

Aberdeen shared their groundsman's stunning handiwork on the Pittodrie turf: the letters 'NHS' carved into the grass, surrounded by a heart shape.

Livingston manager Gary Holt led the applause on the Lions' Twitter page while Hamilton Accies shared a video message from some of the club's promising youngsters.

Championship winners Dundee United joined in the applause as did Fife clubs Dunfermline, Raith Rovers and East Fife.

The show of support has even crossed the Manchester divide as Old Trafford was lit up in NHS blue.

The famous stadium also bore the legend NHS United as only certain letters in the club's name were illuminated.
