Aberdeen reserves thrash Huddersfield 3-0 as Dons kick off new tournament with resounding win

Goals from Bruce Anderson , Ethan Ross and Chris Antoniazzi saw Aberdeen's reserves run riot against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday afternoon, as the Paul Sheerin's side kicked off a new tournament with an emphatic victory.

The Pittodrie side opted out of the SPFL reserve league in the summer, and until Monday, it had been unclear where their seocnd string side would play its football.

A new cross-border tournament was announced this week, however, as they join Celtic , Rangers and Hibs , as well as the Terriers and Brentford, in a new series of friendlies.

Aberdeen were tasked with kicking it off against Huddersfield at Glebe Park, and got off to the best possible start.

The scoring was opened just before the half-hour mark when Anderson got on the end of a Seb Ross cross, volleying past the visiting keeper with aplomb, before a fine free-kick from the aforementioned Ross doubled their money just before the break.

Chris Antoniazzi added some gloss to the finish, as Aberdeen made an early statement of their intent to go all the way in the tournament.

They face Brentford at Balmoral on Sunday, September 29, and will take on each of the sides in the mix both home and away over the course of the season.

Once all matches are played, the top two sides of the mini-league will face off to determine a final victor.

The tournament is primarily for under-21 players, but allows for three overage outfield players and one overage keeper.
