A man has appeared in court charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of a 48-year-old pedestrian who was knocked down during an alleged police chase.

Shaun Rimmer appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday after being arrested in connection with the crash on August 16.

The 28-year-old faced a total of eight charges including driving while disqualified and without insurance as well as failing to stop for police.

The motorist, of no fixed abode, is also accused of taking the black Seat Leon without the owner’s consent and failing to report an accident.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody with the case admitted for further examination.

He is expected to reappear within the next eight days.

The male pedestrian, who has not yet been named, was seriously injured after being knocked down on Great Northern Road in the Granite city.

He was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he tragically lost his fight for life on Saturday, September 11.

Police Scotland have confirmed the incident took place during a pursuit and have referred themselves to the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner.
