Aberdeen player tests positive for Covid-19 after city is locked down

An Aberdeen players has tested positive for Covid-19.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced on Wednesday that the city would be locked down due to the number of cases in the city rising to 79.

The Scottish Premiership side's training session was cancelled on Thursday, and BBC Scotland report that a player's positive test was confirmed in a follow-up NHS test.

Derek McInnes' side are due to play St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park in Perth on Saturday, but that game is now in doubt.

An Aberdeen player has tested positive for coronavirus after the city was locked down due to a cluster of cases.

Training was cancelled on Thursday, with the player's initial positive test confirmed by a follow-up NHS test.

Restrictions were imposed in Aberdeen on Wednesday, with the number of new cases in the city having risen to 79 - with more expected in the coming days.

The news casts doubt over Aberdeen's Premiership game with St Johnstone in Perth on Saturday.

The SPFL had been told that the St Johnstone game would go ahead, as would Aberdeen's match against Hamilton Accies at Pittodrie on Wednesday August 12.

Aberdeen began their Premiership season on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat at Pittodrie against Rangers.

All Scottish football matches are currently played behind closed doors.
