Aberdeen lockdown: Edinburgh bars tighten safety measures amid hospitality shutdown

Bars in Edinburgh are beginning to tighten coronavirus safety measures in light of Aberdeen's local lockdown after an outbreak of cases were linked to bars in the city.

All indoor and outdoor hospitality in Aberdeen, including cafés, pubs and restaurants, were required to close by 5pm today as per Nicola Sturgeon's announcement in this afternoon's coronavirus briefing.

A list of more than 20 licensed premises linked to Aberdeen's outbreak will be published by the Scottish Government today.

Now, Edinburgh bars and pubs are ensuring that a similar outbreak does not occur in the capital by furthering their safety and social distancing measures for guests.

Edinburgh bar Uno Mas opened just before lockdown began in March but has been booked out most evenings during the latest easing of restrictions. Today the team wrote on Facebook in light of today's lockdown of Aberdeen:

"Hopefully those of you who have been in will have seen that we are doing our utmost to look after our staff and guests as well as we can, however we’re always looking at how to be safer.

"For this reason, on top of all our other procedures, we’ll now be asking our guests to wear masks at all times when not sat at the table; so if you go to the toilet or for a cigarette etc, we’ll be asking you to pop your mask on.

"Also if queuing outside, please wear a mask and respect social distancing."

And for those selfish enough to try and get away with sneaking in without a mask - Uno Mas is one step ahead of you.

"If you’ve forgotten a mask, we’ll have disposable ones to buy for £1 which will be added to your bill. If you refuse to wear a mask or we have to remind you more than once to wear it when you’re walking around, we will ask you to leave the premises.

"Stay safe everyone and thank you to everyone who has been keeping us busy since we reopened. It means the world."

Aberdeen is set to have its lockdown reviewed in one week's time, however Nicola Sturgeon has said that "if it is considered necessary we may extend regulations to more than 7 days'.
