Aberdeen legend Willie Miller hails 'predator' Bruce Anderson as he mounts Derek McInnes defence

Aberdeen legend Willie Miller has praised 'predator' Bruce Anderson as he backed the Dons loanee to help keep Hamilton in the Premiership.

Anderson netted his second goal in three outings for Accies last night as his deflected strike salvaged a 1-1 draw at St Mirren.

And, speaking on BBC Sportscene , Miller hailed the 22-year-old and admitted he wouldn't rule out Accies doing enough to retain their Premiership status once again with the youngster leading the line.

He said: "Bruce Anderson is a predator.

"He comes alive inside the box.

"It hasn't been going well for him out on loan previously [at Ayr] but he seems to have found his place at Hamilton.

"He is doing extremely well.

"He takes his strike early [for his goal], it does take a deflection, but all a striker can do is strike the ball towards goal and, if the Gods are with him, it ends up in the back of the net and it certainly did that for him."

On Accies staying up, he added: "They've done it so many times in the past that I'm not going to bet against them.

"Brian Rice has got them playing very well and I sincerely hope he can turn it round for them."

Anderson is scoring freely for Accies, while his parent club have failed to score in their last six outings, despite bringing in three strikers on loan - Fraser Hornby, Callum Hendry and Florian Kamberi - during the transfer window.

Aberdeen gaffer Derek McInnes last night dismissed the notion he must be frustrated at having his striker perform so well elsewhere, as his mis-firing side can't buy a goal at the moment.

Miller added: "That's part of a manager's job, is to try and develop players.

"Bruce is a young player who has come through the development programme and you've got to treat these young kids well.

"It wasn't happening for him on loan in previous times, but it seems to be happening now.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes says rumours that he's frustrated with Bruce Anderson's form at Accies are 'childish' (Alan Harvey/SNS Group)

"Derek McInnes will want him to come back to Aberdeen a better player and he's doing everything right.

"I don't think that bullet can be fired at Derek."
