Aberdeen legend backs Dons star after 'heated exchange with angry fans'

Lewis Ferguson has proven his mettle this week after a tough weekend trip to Motherwell, according to Dons legend Joe Harper.

Ferguson was subject to verbal from the stands last Saturday after Motherwell eliminated Aberdeen from the Scottish Cup via a 2-1 scoreline.

He responded with a levelling goal in the club's 1-1 Premiership draw with St Johnstone, which was the Dons' first game since Stephen Glass was sacked as boss.

Harper - who won the Scottish Premier Division, Scottish Cup and League Cup at Pittodrie - believes the midfielder from Hamilton has displayed strong character.

This season, the Scotland international has scored 12 times in all competitions.

Harper told Press and Journal: "Credit to Lewis Ferguson as well for stepping up to slot the equalising spot-kick deep in the second period.

"He’s an ice cool penalty-taker and never looks like missing.

"Ferguson had a heated exchange with angry fans following the cup exit at Motherwell, which wasn’t ideal.

"However, tempers were high and you want to see both sides showing that passion. Ferguson certainly never let the supporters or his team-mates down from 12 yards on Tuesday."
