Aberdeen Italian restaurant unveils its new look one year after blaze

Amarone in Aberdeen has reopened a year after it was destroyed by a fire with a sophisticated new look inspired by Milan.

The redesigned Italian restaurant on Union Street has added a tubular brass cocktail bar where diners can enjoy an aperitif in one of the intimate booths or at the bar before their meal. With 300 sq m of floor space it can accommodate 200 diners, with two areas for private dining including the “Primo Piano” mezzanine with its own separate bar.

Mario Gizzi of owner DRG said: “It was a difficult decision to close the restaurant, but we felt that instead of doing a quick tidy up to repair damage, we had the opportunity to remodel the restaurant to offer a world class Italian eating and drinking experience in the Granite City.

“The designs are stunning, taking inspiration from the finest central cocktail bars in the world. With construction now finished, we are delighted to be re-opening this week as well as taking reservations for festive dining and a special New Year Gala dinner."

The re-opening has created new part-time and full-time roles in the business bringing the total number of employees to 46. Amarone also has restaurants in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
