Aberdeen investigate Celtic bottle incident as club probe scenes that followed Jota winner

Aberdeen have begun a probe after objects were thrown at Celtic players as they celebrated Jota’s winning goal.

Dons security chiefs are looking into the incident after missiles were launched from the home sections on Sunday as the Portuguese winger ran towards the Red Shed Merkland Road home end after he scored late on to clinch a 2-1 win for Celtic.

A plastic bottle was seen on the pitch along with another object, that looked to be a disposable vape, that referee Bobby Madden picked up and handed to fourth official Gavin Duncan.

A minor was yesterday charged over the alleged throwing of a plastic bottle.

An Aberdeen statement said the incident was “being dealt with in the correct manner by our operations team and the relevant authorities”.

Hoops goal hero Jota admitted he wasn’t aware anything had been thrown on until it was pointed out to him by team-mate Kyogo Furuhashi.

Joto said: “I saw Kyogo touching something, is it a lighter, when you smoke?

“I don’t know. I didn’t see anything else.”

The incident is likely to feature in the referee’s report to the SFA.
