Aberdeen injury update as crisis eases ahead of Celtic showdown

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has revealed his injury crisis is clearing up.

The Dons have suffered a serious shortage for much of the campaign – so much so McInnes had to play two defenders in midfield in their excellent 3-0 win over Motherwell at the weekend.

But the manager has given supporters positive news ahead of the Celtic showdown on Sunday.

Ash Taylor will provide McInnes with another option in central defence with the Welshman close to making his comeback.

He hasn’t featured for Aberdeen since sustaining a hamstring injury in the Europa League clash with Chikhura back in July.

But Taylor will return in the next two weeks, leaving the Dons short of only Scott Wright and Funso Ojo.

Wright is unlikely to play again this season while Ojo won’t be back until January.

Craig Bryson could start against Neil Lennon’s side at Pittodrie with Stephen Gleeson also available again.

McInnes told the Evening Express: “Ash is the only one that’s out and he should be back in a couple of weeks.

“So hopefully we’re starting to come through the injuries with one or two back.

“I have got competition. Earlier on in the season we were without loads of defenders. But we’ve got them back.

“Big Ash will be back in two weeks as well. So we have plenty of options there. That’s as it should be at a club like Aberdeen – we should have good options in all areas of the pitch.”
