Aberdeen in talks with players and Derek McInnes over wage saving move

Aberdeen’s playing and management staff are in pro-active talks to take wage deferrals to help the club through the coronavirus lockdown.

Manager Derek McInnes has been in discussions with his squad and backroom team because they want to play their part in helping the Dons through the crisis.

Chairman Dave Cormack revealed earlier this month that they could be staring at a £5million to £6m deficit if this shutdown goes on indefinitely and it could put the Dons in a perilous position.

That has seen Aberdeen fans snap up season tickets and AberDNA in a bid to play their part and now their team are ready to pitch in.

The Dons players are in discussions just now to agree to take a drop in wages until top-flight football resumes and are poised to become the latest club to act over slashing costs.

Hibs are in talks with their first-team to agree a similar move.

Capital rivals Hearts have been hardline and have asked their players to take 50 per cent cuts or to terminate their contracts while Neil Lennon on Monday night revealed Celtic are also examining the possibility of the money-saving move.

Cormack is looking to plug the gap by bringing in further investment from existing and new directors although he is looking for fans to continue to play their part by buying season tickets and AberDNA.fifa
