Aberdeen in 'no issue' response after players meet police during park training session

A spokesperson has said Aberdeen players were commended by police after being spotted training in a public park.

With both Cormack Park and home ground Pittodrie closed, a group from Derek McInnes ' side took to Hazlehead Park to keep up their fitness.

But that attracted the attention of a pair of police officers, who checked on the players to ensure they were exercising in line with government coronavirus guidelines.

Speaking to the Press and Journal, an Aberdeen spokesperson said: "They weren’t using the same area and were more than two metres apart to do their runs.

"They were adhering to the guidelines that have been laid out. There was absolutely no issue with the police."

The spokesperson also claims the group was commended for using their own training gear.

In a video posted to midfielder Funso Ojo's Instagram, the Belgian thanked the police for their support.

Other stars such as Dylan McGeouch, Niall McGinn and Ronald Hernandez are tagged in the video, where the players can clearly been seen adhering to guidelines by standing far apart.

Last week the club announced that players and staff would partly defer their wages for four months while an extra £2million was added to club coffers from investors to ward off the financial pain of the pandemic.
