Aberdeen fans rage as Liverpool vs Napoli is given preferential treatment by ScotRail

Aberdeen fans have been left angered and accused ScotRail of double standards over their decision to put on extra trains for a friendly at Murrayfield.

The match between Liverpool and Napoli will see more carriages laid on from Aberdeen to Edinburgh take supporters to the game.

But Dons supporters are unhappy after ScotRail failed to put extra seats in place to help them get to Glasgow for last season's Betfred Cup semi-final win over Rangers.

Derek McInnes' side won 1-0 on the day but many suporters said they couldn't make the game because of the poor service.

The pre-season friendly is likely to see a sold out crowd at the home of Scottish Rugby with Scotland star Andy Robertson the star attraction.

Liverpool do have a huge fanbase in Scotland but Dons fans feel it is pandering to 'glory hunters' rather than helping out supporters of the Scottish game.

Ryan Finnie, of the Cromwell Reds, told the Evening Express: "It's frustrating that Aberdeen do not seem to benefit from extra trains when we need them, but Liverpool and Napoli 'fans' do.

“This is everything that’s wrong with modern football. It’s disappointing to see ScotRail pandering to glory hunters, who have only ever seen the team they apparently support on television, and not real fans who support their local team and follow them all over the country.”

Chris Strachan added: “It’s a kick in the teeth for Aberdeen fans but it’s the same thing that always happens. For years we have been given lunchtime kick-offs down in Glasgow and it’s a constant struggle to get extra carriages put on the trains.

“I just shook my head when I heard the news because of everything we have to put up with. If they can do it for a pre-season friendly, surely they can do it for Aberdeen fans.”
