Aberdeen defender Declan Gallagher deletes Twitter account amid defeat to old club Motherwell

Aberdeen defender Declan Gallagher deleted his Twitter account amid a defeat to former club Motherwell.

The Scotland international and ex-Well skipper is a regular on social media, but amid yesterday's 2-0 defeat to the Steelmen he appears to have quit the network.

It was his first match at Fir Park since signing for the Dons in the summer and it didn't end well for the visitors, with Kevin van Veen and Juhani Ojala earning Motherwell an impressive win.

Earlier in the week, Gallagher, who hails from Blantyre, and Motherwell defender Ricki Lamie shared some friendly banter on Twitter about the impending meeting between the two sides, commenting on a Lanarkshire Live Sport article about Gallagher's return to Fir Park.

His reasons for deleting the account, which had 12,000 followers, are unclear but the 30-year-old's other social media profiles on Tik Tok and Twitch - where he regularly engages with fans over streams of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - are still active.

Deactivated accounts can be reactivated within 30 days, however, so Gallagher could still make a comeback.

It's unclear if the account was deleted before or after the match.

Gallagher has made 10 appearances for the Dons so far this season and his side will look to return to winning ways when they host St Johnstone at Pittodrie on Saturday.
