Aberdeen boss provides transfer update on Nottingham Forest target Scott McKenna

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has offered an update on the state of play surrounding Nottingham Forest target Scott McKenna.

The Reds face some tough competition for the highly-rated defender – and McInnes expects more clubs may yet join the race for his signature.

Forest are understood to have already seen one offer rejected, as have QPR, with both bids believed to be in the region of £3m.

Hull City have been turned down previously and are said to still be keen, while Stoke City, Aston Villa and Celtic have also tried their luck in the past.

The Dons are said to value Scotland international McKenna at around £7-10m, and McInnes admits they face a fight to keep hold of him before the English transfer window closes a week today.

“There is a week to go in the window in England so it will all start to heat up now,” he told the Daily Record.

“There’s a real possibility clubs will come back in and every chance there could be more clubs than have been in for him already.

“We’re not encouraging others but we anticipate there will be others.

“The valuation hasn’t been met as it stands, so that’s something I have to leave for the chairman and board.

“I have a high opinion of Scott, he’s the best defender this country has and he’ll get to 50 caps pretty quickly.

“He has a lot of attributes and still a lot to learn, but if someone is going to learn it will be him.”

Forest have made seven signings so far this summer, and are also understood to be close to bringing in midfielder Samba Sow.
