Aberdare fire: Three adults and a child rescued from roof of burning building

Four people, including a child, were rescued from the roof of a burning building in Aberdare.

The two men, one woman and child had been in a flat above a Premier Store on fire in the town's Market Street.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 10pm.

After being rescued by firefighters they were taken to hospital for treatment. Police said this morning that no-one was seriously injured in the fire.

More than 40 firefighters were called to the scene after the fire is believed to have started on the ground floor.

A crew was still on the scene on Thursday morning to dampen down the area.

This was the scene in the town this morning.

A large area has been cordoned off as emergency services continue their investigations and to make the area safe.

South Wales Fire and Rescue's chief officer Huw Jakeway said: "Thanks to our crews who worked so hard at this incident, your professionalism really is world class."

A fire investigation team will work with South Wales Police to find out how the fire started.

Local people have said that the shop has been closed in recent weeks.
