Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday asked former Liberal Democratic Party Secretary General Hiroyuki Hosoda, who has been named chairman of the lower house Commission on the Constitution, to do his best to advance discussions on a revision of the Constitution.
"I would like you to exert your utmost efforts to revise the Constitution, which is the LDP's long-ardent wish," Abe said at a fundraising party on Monday for Hosoda, who is the chairperson of the Hosoda faction, which Abe is from.
Former Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori also attended the party, revealing that he told Abe: "You still have 20 years to go until you turn my age. Do whatever you want to do."
Mori also mentioned that the Hosoda faction has several lawmakers who want to run for the LDP presidency.
"Our faction has quite a few talented people, and they think they will be the next [prime minister]. But for some, they are the only ones who think that," Mori said jokingly.
